About Me

Hi! Welcome to my profile, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out. For those who don't know me, I'll take a second to introduce myself. My name is David, I'm 28 years old and I live and work in the city of New Westminster. I'm originally from the small Okanagan town of Summerland and come from a family of five (mother, father and two brothers). I moved to the lower mainland for post secondary education, but after working out here for a few years, I decided to settle in the area. I enjoy a variety of sports including snowboarding, volleyball, hockey, running, swimming and biking. I'm an outdoor enthusiast and fond of hiking, but must admit, I don't have much multi-day climbing exposure. I've gone on some grueling one day hikes and a few multi-day treks, but never anything at high altitude. I will be the 'young grasshopper' on this climb, but look forward to learning from the seasoned climbers in the group. I have a bit of backpacking experience, my travels have taken me through Europe, South East Asia and to the South Pacific. I've never looked back in regret when it comes to travel, every adventure has been a learning and growing opportunity. I see this adventure as being challenging in a variety of ways. At times, I've felt anxious about certain aspects of the trip, those include, the actual climb, traveling to africa, altitude sickness, reaching my fundraising goal, and a few others. The fundraising goal does at times feel daunting, but here's how I've been able to put it into perspective - the challenge I face raising money for Children's Hospital is nothing compared to the challenges many children face battling for their lives. All of the sudden things don't seem so bad. I feel very fortunate to be a member of the Summits of Hope Kilimanjaro 2009 team, this organization has done some amazing things and it's an honor and a privilege to be able to join the ranks. Thank you for reading my profile, I've started to use the blog feature on this website, and have been actually having a lot of fun using it as a journal concerning the build up. If you're interesting in reading more, check it out, it's near the top of this page on the right. My goal is to update it weekly with all topics concerning my Summits of Hope experience (fundraising, training, preparation, etc.). I hope you check in for updates often! If you are interested in helping to support the Summits of Hope cause, let me know. Thank you to all those who have inspired, encouraged, supported and assisted me in reaching my fundraising goal, I really appreciate and admire your efforts to help sick children get back on their feet. -DJM For more info on Kilimanjaro look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Kilimanjaro
