About Me
Kilimanjaro 2023 will be my 6th climb with Summits of Hope to raise funds for BC Children's Hospital. I’ve convinced my sister, Shannon Wright to join me for this great cause. I look forward to standing on top of one of the seven summits and the highest mountain in Africa with her!
My son's story:
On May 23, 2007 my son Beckett was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a blood cancer that affects 7 out of 100,000 children and is the most common form of childhood leukemia. His diagnosis was truly a surprise as I expected my son to potentially break an arm or leg but not cancer at age 3!
Beckett endured 40 months of chemotherapy, where he was often isolated from everyone except our family. His scar from his surgically implanted port for chemo reminds, Beckett, now 19, of the times he had to be careful of germs, feeling tired, losing his hair, many needles and daily hospital trips.
Beckett was officially "CANCER FREE" in September 2017!
I often tell Beckett that he can do anything as everything is "easier than chemo." This is what I thought about when trying to climb at high altitude to Everest Basecamp (November 2010 & 2014) and the peak of Kilimanjaro in Africa (October 2012 & 2018) to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research with Summits of Hope.
I truly believe that Beckett is alive today and cured because of BC Children's Hospital. I'm hoping to share Beckett's experience so that everyone knows that the donations made to BC Children's Hospital Foundation save lives like Becketts.
Please donate to BC Children's Hospital on behalf of my Summits of Hope Climbs (100% of donations go directly to BC Children's Hospital Foundation with a tax receipt)
Better yet, join Summits of Hope, climb a mountain and raise money for BC Children's Hospital!
"Easier than Chemo!"
